It is also one of the more misunderstood upgrades — the instinct to buy the densest, most restrictive filter available can do more harm than good if the system was not built to handle it. This is not a health guide; it is a straight look at what filtration mechanically does for dust and airborne particles in a home, and where the real limits are.

Yes — a higher-efficiency filter physically captures more of the fine particles passing through it than a basic filter does, and that translates into measurably less dust settling around the house over time as the system continues to circulate air through it.
